K-Swiss Reaches into the Archives for The Agenda Show
by AaronLevant | Oct 28, 2009 | 0 views | Leave a Comment

The Vintage California is early prototype design work from K-Swiss archives. Before the founders realized that all-leather was best for a tennis shoe, they played with various canvas and textile materials. The Vintage California hasn’t been available in over 20 years. We reached back to bring something new with this K-Swiss Vintage California Collection of high and low top tennis shoes. The Collection hits retail March 2010.

The Crossroad Retail Show ran September 8th and 9th in Carlsbad, CA. Crossroads offered a BBQ and the Black Box Distribution Skate Park was open to all, with a best trick contest on the final day to end the show. Check out some of the photos from second day.

Shake Junt had one of the most elaborate booths at the show.

Supra displayed Lizard King’s new pro model shoe.

Sk8 Mafia had a booth displaying some of its up and coming decks.

Open skate going down all day in the Black Box Distribution Skate Park.

The BBQ was going off, people enjoying their hotdogs and burgers from Crossroads.

Crossroads had a great turnout vendors, retailers, and vendors in all. Including a open skate for riders to enjoy while getting work down through a retail show turned out an overall fun and productive retail show.

Print Media Revival
by AaronLevant | Sep 08, 2009 | 27 views | Leave a Comment
I returned from Magic/Project/Capsule with a couple of new print publications from around the industry. Even with the Internet’s presence, these print publications continue to lead in bringing information. Staple Design, The Hundreds and UPPER PLAYGROUND introduced publications this fall based around their brands.
Staple Design developed a quarterly magazine reed pages, with the first issue jeffstaple looks to present the idea of “walking into their store, Reed Space.”

Here’s how reed pages managed advertisements by only allowing the companies logo on the ad page. Nike’s print ad from the first issue:

STPL’s own advertisement.

Each ad noted that without advertisement reed pages would not have the ability produce a print version.

Picked up The Hundreds Magazine premiere issue. The magazine previews Fall and Holiday product lines, while incorporating its online blog columns into the print version.

UPPER PLAYGROUND released its quarterly magazine that doubles as a catalogue previewing the product line, as well.

Within the publication, UPPER PLAYGROUND highlights contributing artists such as Estevan Oriol.

Beautiful/Decay released its quarterly magazine without any type of advertisements. The new magazine is limited to 1500 copies, each come hand numbered and with a unique image on the cover.

A look at the hand numbered issues.

The Limited Edition Magazine released its fall issue, that covers many aspects within industry from city spots to music and athletes.

LTD included an extensive 8 page list of all the streetwear stores around the U.S.

Complex Magazine continues it print version magazine and in a proper way.

The feature about Kid Cudi is illustrated by Augor from The Seventh Letter.

The Art of Story Telling (taost) introduces its premiere issue for winter 2010. Taost is a new print publication promoting the influences behind street culture.

Just got back from Magic/Project/Capsule. All shows were decently attended, despite the expectations due to the economy. Most notably, is the debut of the Capsule Trade show this year. Check out the pictures from Day 2.
